As part of Small Staff Appreciation Month, I’ll be profiling different small staff associations all month long. Today’s interview is with Carol Bousquet of ALMA: The International Loudspeaker Association.

1. How many full-time and part-time staffers (or volunteers) do you have and where are you located?
We have one staff member – me. I work from home, about 30 miles northwest of Boston.

2. What is your role at the organization?
Executive Director

3. Have you worked for organizations of other sizes? Large, medium, small? What are the advantages/disadvantages of a small staff organization?
I’ve worked for ALMA for 11 years.

4. If you could correct one misperception about a small staff association, what would it be?
That they’re somehow rich?

5. What is your favorite thing about working for a small staff association?
Working from home at my own tempo and being the boss.

6. How many members does your organization have?
100, plan to double membership in 3 years.

7. Describe a typical day. If your days vary quite a bit — as many small staff execs’ tend to do — just pick one particular day.
We open for business by 9 a.m. I check my e-mail and address administrative tasks. I work on promotion/PR/event planning.  Often I work on new MemberClicks AMS implementation and quite likely call my Implementation Manager (Greg Foreman!); I do some more work on the AMS, then go swimming, eat dinner and finally, work some more on ALMA International – night shift! (I gotta get a life!)

If you’d like your small staff association to be featured, please send me an e-mail at shannon@memberclicks.com!

Hi Shannon,

Thx for the highlight! Just wanted to correct that I am back in the positon of ED after an 11 year hiatus, rather than I’ve worked for ALMA for 11 years, as of this Feb., 2010. The biggest difference, if asked, is that AMS didn’t exist 11 years ago. I am about to take our new Memberclicks site live, hopefully Monday/Tuesday. Which means I’ll not have to see that hideous website masthead again and — that I’ll now have all of the many new functions your AMS brings to the experienc. And, that’s what will enable me to double membership!

P. S. Greg Foreman, Implementation Manager, deserves a promotion working w/ me! Can u help there?

Hi, Carol-

Thank you so much for agreeing to be profiled and sharing your story, and for clarifying that point. I hope your implementation has gone well and we’re all looking forward to seeing your new website!
