You might know that we here at MemberClicks pride ourselves on being the champions of small-staff associations. We’ve been focused on providing refreshing technology for small-staffs since our founding back in 1998!

So I though I’d offer up some resources for small-staff associations. Not all of these links are specifically targeted to small-staffs, but the concepts definitely apply. Staffers at smaller associations have a lot of responsibilities and often juggle many different tasks, which can be overwhelming. So take a short break from the hustle and bustle and check out these blog posts and articles. Hopefully you’ll get a few tips and learn something! (I know I did.)

First up is a great article from the Harvard Business Review on three tips for becoming an energizer. If you’re a leader in your association, it’s crucial to set a positive example and get the rest of the organization in a positive mindset. I firmly believe that your attitude affects your productivity, so be sure to polish your can-do attitude!

Debra Helwig is a staffer at a small association in Georgia, and she writes a great blog – I always enjoy reading her posts. This one is a little old but still worth a read. She wrote about our constant “need for speed” in this Internet age, and why it’s positive to take a breather now and then. Try looking at what tasks you have to accomplish them and prioritizing them (urgent, important, habitual) rather than working on everything at once.

This is another semi-old blog post, but that’s OK. Peggy Hoffman wrote on her blog about five easy ways to spread the word about your organization. Word of mouth is a powerful tool, and is often overlooked in marketing plans. There are some great suggestions here, no matter how small your organization.

If you’re a member of ASAE and The Center (and even if you’re not!) I can’t recommend this virtual conference enough. It’s designed specifically for small-staff association professionals, and lasts 12 hours throughout the course of three days. It will conducted both over the phone and online, and topics include technology, finance and board/volunteer governance. If your organization has 10 or fewer staff members, there is a wealth of information to be gained that can benefit your association!
