Happy Friday! The MemberClicks team is moving offices today! Although our new place is just a few miles away from our current home, it’s still been a big undertaking for several team members, and I can’t wait to start working from my new desk on Monday.
Without further adieu, here are my top five favorite association management blog posts of the week!
1. Debra Helwig reminded us that just because a job is classified as “boring” (i.e. accountants or lawyers) doesn’t mean you can’t have fun! “It’s not a sin to show a little personality in your work,” she writes. I couldn’t agree more.
2. At the SNAP blog, Lynn Morton wrote about why it’s difficult for associations to put together social media teams. Coordinating can be difficult if there are many people involved, and associations still have lots of silos to go through to communicate. And sometimes, people are just apathetic and still not sure social media can help their organization.
3. Cynthia D’Amour is totally psyched about her new freezer — but when did a freezer become something to be excited about? The new freezer was important to her, but maybe 10 years ago, it would have just been another errand. Of course, Cynthia found a way to relate it back to chapter leaders: “how do you stay current with what’s important to your members?”
4. Kathy Johnson at Associations Live reminded us this week to be sure expectations are clear between the association’s staff and the board. A few key points: be flexible and willing to change direction, pick your battles, communicate frequently and be honest and open.
5. This may just be the best argument for virtual experiences I’ve ever read! It’s a little long, but Jeff Hurt did a fantastic job of explaining how technology does not lead to less meaningful relationships or isolation. The benefits of social networking are numerous, and texting someone rather than meeting face-to-face does not necessarily detract from the relationship. Kudos, Jeff!
Have a fantastic weekend! The MemberClicks crew will be back bright and early Monday morning from our new home!
